Congratulations on another great commentary, Weng. The Globe and Mail was once a haven for brave and original journalism by leading lights like Jan Wong, Andrew Mitrovica, and Alanna Mitchell. Now, we have to rely on Substack articles by Ng Weng Hoong and Wesley Wark or read Mitrovica's columns in Al Jazeera for perspective on national security issues in Canada. It speaks volumes about the intellectual decline of Canadian journalism over the past two decades.

Thanks Charlie.

The Globe and Mail is now Canada's leading tabloid paper. If it can hire Sam Cooper, it'd might even be the best in N.America. The only thing keeping the Canadian media going now is Chinese scapegoating. Let's see how far this goes.

Thank you Weng! I hope Judge Hogue and her team read your critique of the PIFI Stage 1 report and that it influences how they approach the Stage 2 hearings. We are in the grip of a debilitating groupthink on foreign interference that has been torqued by poor intelligence, sloppy analysis, grandiose "whistleblowers", opportunistic politicians, self-serving media, and . . . yes, prejudice. We should of course be concerned about malign Foreign Interference and do what we can to counter it, but PIFI should be guided by the principles of credibility, materiality, consistency, and proportionality. The national debate on FI is straying from these principles.

Sorry, Pau, for this belated reply. Not sure how I missed your comment.

This "foreign inquiry" mania is the outcome of mob rule. The Hogue Commision is an exercise in confirmation bias.

First, they let Sam Cooper and his army of lemmings, Robert Fife, Steven Chase, and others in the media, write tabloid stories fed by traitors in CSIS to strike fear and rage in the Canadian public. Then, the Conservative Party joins in with its race-baiting sob stories, supported by fake think tank analysts. It's a big pay day for the unscrupulous populists. Canada is the biggest loser, its integrity dragged down so fast & so easily by a handful of glory hunters.

Another excellent piece! Thank you Weng for sharing your thorough research and insightful analyses. I hope the Hogue inquiry will heed your advice and save itself from the ugly and dangerous fate of being a rubber stamp for re-determined China Threat narrative.

Thanks Xiaobei.

I made submissions to the commission before Hogue began her inquiry, but they probably dumped them into the bin. This inquiry will not deviate from its mission to tar "the Chinese" as dangerous aliens.

Please circulate this article to your contacts, and ask them to circulate to their contacts. If we don't, the Globe and Mail, Global News, Sam Cooper and the rest of Canada's Chinese-scapegoating media will monopolize the narrative. These journalists aren't just going after the CCP, they're going after "the Chinese" in general. The witch hunt is on.
